Book Review: Inferno

via

Yesterday, I shared the books that I read in 2013, and this was one of the last three that I squeezed in before the new year!  I promised book reviews for those last few books, so here we go!

Summary from Goodreads.com:
In his international blockbusters The Da Vinci CodeAngels & Demons, and The Lost Symbol, Dan Brown masterfully fused history, art, codes, and symbols. In this riveting new thriller, Brown returns to his element and has crafted his highest-stakes novel to date.

In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces . . . Dante’s Inferno.

Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust . . . before the world is irrevocably altered.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I did enjoy this book, but found it more difficult to read than the other stories of Professor Robert Langdon. There are many references to places and works of art in other languages (mostly Italian) that slow down the pace of the reader. The story also drags a bit, and I felt as if they just needed to "get going" throughout the story. I was genuinely surprised by the many twists...especially toward the end of the story, and I really liked how the story resolved.

If you have read any of Dan Brown's other books--especially the stories about Robert Langdon--this is a must read!
