Music Monday: Paul McCartney

At the beginning of the month, I started sharing a Paul McCartney/Beatles song each day in preparation for the once in a life time opportunity of going to see Paul McCartney perform live.  Then I got sick, and I gave up.

BUT that doesn't mean that I love Paul McCartney any less.  On October 15, 2015, my cousin and I who have been Paul McCartney fans for most of our lives, got to see Paul McCartney in concert at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State.

Jaime and I waiting in line to get into The Bryce Jordan Center.  It was a chilly evening in PA, but luckily, we didn't wait too long!

Our seats were farther away from the stage than I originally thought.  I think Ticketmaster had the map wrong.  At least we were there!

SO excited!!

The screens began scrolling video and pictures, and the moment had almost arrived!

Seeing him was easier with the big screens

"Blackbird"

Just a little snippet of the song from a video I took

Paul played "Something" (one of George Harrison's songs) as a special tribute to George.  They showed pictures of George and Paul and the other Beatles in the background.  Cry much?

Here are a few other videos that I took at the concert:

I was so worried that he wasn't going to sing "Yesterday."  It is one of my most favorite Beatles songs!  Luckily, he did it during one of his encores.
This concert was seriously such an amazing experience and opportunity.  I am so glad I got to share it with someone who loves and appreciates Paul McCartney as much as I do!  I am also very proud of myself for not crying through the ENTIRE concert.  I certainly shed some tears, but I was worried that I would sob the whole time.  This was definitely a once in a life time opportunity.
Have you ever gotten to see a musical idol in concert??

ALSO, don't forget to mail your Pumpkin Swap packages by tomorrow!! :)

#Obsessed (aka I love Paul McCartney!!!)

Back at the end of August, I caught a commercial on TV stating that Paul McCartney was coming to play at the Bryce Jordan Center (at Penn State).  I nearly fainted.

If you've been around here for any length of time, you may know that I love the Beatles, and Paul McCartney is my favorite!  I never thought that I would get the chance to see him in concert.

I clearly lost my mind, but I HAD to buy tickets.

This is a once in a life time opportunity.

Tickets were NOT cheap.

But this is a once in a life time opportunity!!!!

The best part is that I am going to the concert with my cousin, and life-long friend, Jaime.  We have both been #obsessed with the Beatles and both love Paul McCartney!

In honor of this momentous occasion (happening on October 15th!), I am going to post some of my MOST favorite Paul McCartney songs!  I will post one a day until the concert!

Enjoy!

P.S. Did you sign up for The 4th Annual Great Pumpkin Swap yet?

Music Monday: Songs about Spring

Hi there!  I have been finding that sometimes, I just need a blogging hiatus.  I was busy and sick with a cold last week, and I just didn't have the desire, energy, or inspiration to blog.  Those little breaks make me super excited to get back to blogging.  And I'm launching this week with Music Monday!

In case you haven't noticed, spring is here!  While it doesn't exactly FEEL like spring yet in Pennsylvania, the first day of spring brings the promise that it will eventually get warm.

Here are some songs that put me in a spring and summer mood!

"California Gurls" by Katy Perry

"Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line

"Fun, Fun, Fun" by The Beach Boys

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & The Waves

"Here Comes the Sun" by The Beatles

These are just some of the songs that make me think of spring/summer, fun, warm weather....

What songs make you think of spring??

Music Monday: The Beatles

Yes, again.

At least, the last time, I tricked you with the title "The Greatest Band Ever" (Part 1 & Part 2).

But seriously, I HAVE to talk about The Beatles again because last Sunday (February 9th), CBS aired "The Beatles: The Night That Changed America- A Grammy Salute."  This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the British Invasion, and on February 9, 1964, The Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show!

This is just a short clip:

The CBS broadcast was so popular that they aired it again on Wednesday, February 12th.  The only reason I didn't watch it the second time was that it's still saved on my DVR.

So anyway, the show featured some of today's artists performing Beatles hits.

Some of MY favorites were Maroon 5 with "Ticket to Ride":

Katy Perry with "Yesterday":

Ed Sheeran with "In My Life":

and Joe Walsh, Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison (George Harrison's son) with "Something":

They also showed clips of David Letterman interviewing Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on his set which used to be the stage for The Ed Sullivan Show.  And then....

AND THEN

Ringo performed solo.

AND THEN

Paul performed solo.

AND THEN

THEY PERFORMED TOGETHER!!!

This video gets cut off before the end, but it starts with Paul performing "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," and all of a sudden, I realized what was about to happen. Just like the recording, they sing, "Billy Shears" and.....out came Ringo! Then the video show most of "With a Little Help from My Friends."

My cousin, Jaime is also a HUGE Beatles fan, and this conversation happened on Facebook (between Jaime, me, and my aunt & uncle):

Just started watching The Beatles Grammy tribute from last night, and I'm already crying! What's wrong with us?? And MAROON 5 to start out the tributes?!  KILLING ME (in a good way!)!! lol

  • Becky  Also, by watching this, I discovered that if I had ever seen The Beatles play live, I would not have been one of those silly, ridiculous screaming girls. I would've been one of those girls who was bawling her eyes out, not able to speak...which is what I did from the moment Ringo hit the stage and it got worse the longer it went on. Haha! That was an awesome tribute!
  • Jaime I understand. I was like, "Good Lord, why am I crying?" Was I crying because of what will never be?
  • Joe  My parents actually let me stay up and watch the Ed Sullivan show, and I still have there first album called Meet the Beatles. it is up in the attic. I played it to death..
  • Vickie  I loved the way Ringo got into it. Paul seemed pleased as well but Ringo was having the time of his life. You could see it on his face!

Music Monday: The Greatest Band Ever- Part 2

First of all, I have to start off by telling you that I could just scream.  When I was writing my last post, I had a list of 24 Beatles songs that I managed to get down to my Top 10.  I meant to copy the ones that weren't in the last post and save them in a draft to write this post.

I forgot.

So I had to go through it all again.  UGH.

In case you missed it, last Monday, I shared songs 6-10 of my Top 10 favorite Beatles songs.  Today, I share my Top 5!

To recap:

10. "Hello, Goodbye" from The Magical Mystery Tour
9. "Do You Want to Know a Secret" from Please, Please Me
8. "I'll Follow the Sun" from Beatles for Sale
7. "All You Need is Love" from The Magical Mystery Tour
6. "Girl" from Rubber Soul

Without further adieu, here are my Top 5 Beatles songs!

5. "Something" from Abbey Road

4. "All My Loving" from With the Beatles

3. "Can't Buy Me Love" from A Hard Day's Night

2. "I Want to Hold Your Hand" from Meet the Beatles

1. "Yesterday" from Yesterday and Today

So there you have it!  Again, I will have to say that I'm still not so sure I'm settled on this, but I'm happier with my Top 5 than the first 5!  :)

Honorable mentions (in no particular order):
~From Please Please Me: "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Love Me Do"
~From Meet the Beatles: This Boy
~From A Hard Day's Night: "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You" and "Tell Me Why"
~From Beatles for Sale: "Eight Days a Week"
~From Help!: "You're Gonna Lose that Girl" and "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away"
~From Rubber Soul: "Michele"
~From Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: "A Day in the Life"
~From Magical Mystery Tour: "Penny Lane"
~From Abbey Road: "Come Together", "Oh! Darling", and "Here Comes the Sun"
and
~From Let it Be: "Let it Be"

Now you can see why this was so difficult!

Did I miss any of your favorites??

Music Monday: The Greatest Band Ever- Part I

I'm hoping that title got your attention.  :)

I'm sure we all have our own opinions on what band just might be the greatest band ever, but for me there is, and always has been only one....

The Beatles

I've always loved the music of the 60's.  My cousin and I are still convinced that we grew up in the wrong era.  We love oldies from the 50's, 60's, and 70's.  Granted, I do generally enjoy most music across many, many genres.  But there's just something about the 60's, and especially The Beatles that I just really love.

When I originally sat down to write this post, I wanted to do a Top 5.  This proved impossible because even upon being extremely  picky about which songs I chose, I still had 24.  SO, I decided to do a Top 10.  Today will be the bottom 5 songs of my Top 10 Favorite Beatles songs of all time!  (NOTE:  I still had to eliminate 14 songs from my list.  Torture.)

10. "Hello, Goodbye" from The Magical Mystery Tour

9. "Do You Want to Know a Secret" from Please Please Me

8. "I'll Follow the Sun" from Beatles for Sale

7. "All You Need is Love" from The Magical Mystery Tour

6. "Girl" from Rubber Soul

I'll be honest, I'm still not convinced that this is the right order!  Stayed tuned next week for my TOP 5 Beatles songs, and a list of the honorable mentions that didn't make my TOP 10 (after putting myself in extreme duress....).

Are any of these in your Top 10??
