It's Ok Thursday 5/9

In case you didn't know, this week is Teacher Appreciation Week!  So my "It's Ok Thursdays" this week is teacher-themed!

It's ok...

...to let teachers have fun.  The PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) at my school is great.  They plan fun dress days for the week, and they give us treats and a catered lunch.  Monday was hat day.  On Tuesday, we could dress like our favorite Dr. Seuss character (our theme this year is Dr. Seuss).  Wednesday was "Wacky Wednesday," today is Pajama Day, and tomorrow, we get to dress like our students.  I teach first grade, so dressing like them is super fun...and borders on things I could have worn for Wacky Wednesday.  haha

...that it's Pajama Day.

...that my class won a viewing of The Lorax today!  Teachers were encouraged to decorate their doors with our favorite Dr. Seuss book.  Mine is Green Eggs and Ham.  The kids made green eggs and ham from paper and glued them onto a paper plate with a paper fork.  Then I asked them all to make a face to show if they liked green eggs and ham or not and I took their pictures.  Then they wrote in a speech bubble, "Yes, I like green eggs and ham." or "I do not like them Sam I Am."  The art teacher chose a winner from each grade level!  I didn't expect to win because my teacher-neighbor's door was pretty awesome, too!  (If I can, I will update this post with a picture later.)

...to be excited for summer vacation.  Don't get me wrong.  I love my job.  I've had a rough year, though, and I'm ready for a break.  We are down to 23 school days!!

...to make a change.  I don't think I've announced it here yet.  While an official decision has not been made, I told my principal that I wanted to move to 6th grade.  It's a HUGE leap.  I never, ever, ever wanted to teach above 3rd grade.  But I'm really excited about it, and I hope I get to move.

What's ok with you this week??

It's Ok Thursdays 4/18

This week's edition of "It's Ok Thursdays" is about my current obession with country music.

It's ok...to be obsessed with country music.

It's ok...to think Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert are the best married couple ever.

It's ok...to be totally over Taylor Swift and her fake "surprised" face but still like some of her songs anyway.  (Honestly, Taylor, we've all had break ups before.  We don't have to publicly criticize them all in song.)

It's ok...to LOVE this song by The Band Perry:

It's ok...to not like how Kimberly Perry sounds in a live performance, though.

It's ok...to be obsessed with country music.  (Oh, I said that already.  Didn't I? ;) )

It's Ok Thursdays 4/11

Well friends, I've decided that this week's edition of "It's Ok Thursday" was going to be spring-themed.  Enjoy! :)

It's ok...

...that I haven't had to start the car to warm it up (or defrost the windshield).  The weather here in PA has taken a turn for the better.  It was almost 80 where I live yesterday.  Granted, this is near record-breaking temperatures for April, and they weekend is going to be cooler.  BUT where I live, that's kind of normal for spring temps to be all over the place!

...to break out the flip flops!  I wore flip flops twice this week!  :) :) :)

...to feel that it's necessary to paint your tonails in order to wear flip flops.  (Stay tuned for tomorrow's post where I review one of my Julep nail polishes.)

...to be pasty white.  I need a little sun.  The good news is that I got the kiddos outside for recess and got a little sun on my pale legs and arms.

...to sleep with the windows open.  I cannot begin to tell you how much I love this.

...to thank your parents for taking a vacation.  See, last year, my parents went to the beach in March, and we had a gorgeous week of record breaking temperatures.  They were supposed to go in February this year, and postponed their trip until April.  Since they left last week, our temperatures have gotten progressively better.  I called my mom to thank her on Tuesday.  :) haha

Are there any spring things that are ok with you this week?

It's Ok Thursdays 4/4

This week, it's ok that...

...Scott & I started the Insanity program.  The workouts are kicking our butts, but we're feeling good.

...I'm not totally thrilled with the diet portion of the program.  I'm picky.  I haven't liked some of the meals.  It is helping us to make healthier choices and eat appropriate portion sizes, though.  That's what we need.  Next month, we can start incorporating more things we like if we control our portion sizes.

...the countdown is on!  Only 48 more school days until this school year is over!

...I think, "Nooooo!" when the alarm goes off.  I've done it every day this week.  I can't help it.  I'm so tired.  The alarm is apparently jealous of the love affair I'm having with my pillow.  :-p

...I am glad yesterday was our exercise rest day.  While the workouts are really making us feel good.  I needed a break.

...I came home from school, showered, and basically got ready for bed yesterday.  As I said, I needed the rest day.

What's ok with you this week?

It's Ok Thursdays 3/28

Thursdays seem to come around so quickly these days....

This week, I've decided to do an Easter-themed It's Ok Thursday.

It's ok...that we dismiss an hour early today.  (We always to this on the last day of school before a holiday break.)

It's ok...that the best Easter present I will have this year is the absence of someone who has been making my life miserable.

It's ok...to be excited to dye eggs with my students today!

It's ok...that Scott and I may actually have the entire 3-day weekend off together.  (Unless he gets called in to work overtime.  Which will probably happen because we actually have the whole 3-day weekend off together.  lol)

It's ok...to kinda wish that I had to wake up on Sunday morning and search for my Easter basket.

It's ok...that my mom and dad do still get me some candy.  (Mmmm...Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs....)

It's ok...to miss going to Youth Convention in Hershey with the youth group.  Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that it's also ok to miss being a teen/early 20-something sometimes, too.

It's ok...that because of Easter "break" (aka a 3-day weekend thanks to snow) today is "Friday" and I am wearing jeans.

What's ok with you this week??

It's Ok Thursdays 3/21

This week, it's ok...

...that there was snow on the first day of spring.  Am I done with winter?  YES!  But I just tried to remind myself that it will not automatically be warm and beautiful on the first day.  It WILL happen eventually.  I hope.

...that when I copy and past things into my blog that it doesn't use my blog's font.  And then I can't get anything after it to be in my font.  I'm pretty computer savvy, but stuff like that makes me feel computer illiterate.  (You all don't mind my changing fonts, do you??)

...that Wednesday night was pretending to be Thursday night.  Again.  I don't know why, but for the past two weeks, I keep thinking it's Thursday night on Wednesday night.  Knowing the next day isn't Friday can be a bit of a let down.  But that means tonight, Scott and I are going to go look into some new furniture!

...to watch NCIS reruns over and over...and over and over...It's one of our crime dramas that I don't mind watching a million times.  It probably has something to do with this:

If you live in a box, this is Michael Weatherly.  He plays Tony DiNozzo on NCIS.  (CBS Tuesdays 8/7 c., USA...almost all the time....)
...it's ok to leave you with one more parting image.

You're welcome.

It's Ok Thursday 3/14

It's time for another edition of "It's Ok Thursdays".  I figured I'd get this post written before the students arrive.  It is my hope that this Thursday is MUCH better than the last.

It's ok...to stay up later than usual to pamper yourself.  I totally took a luxurious shower, used my new warming foot scrub from Julep (review to come), and painted my nails.

It's ok...if you can think of nothing else but spring.  I am READY for warm weather!!

It's ok...to be frustrated with your job.  We all have these days....months....years.  Whichever.  I'm thankful for my job, but I'm just frustrated right now.  I hope you'll all bear with me until summer rolls around.  :)

It's ok...that I'm super excited my friend Joan is coming for a visit on Saturday.  She's bringing her baby along, and I can't wait to see them both!  I haven't seen them since baby Abby was a little over a week old in September!

It's ok...that the above list is all that I have time for today.  The students are arriving!

Have a great Thursday, everyone! :)

It's Ok Thursday 3/7

Ok friends, I am going to apologize in advance.  My "It's Ok Thursdays" post today is going to be about some things that are NOT ok because, well...THAT's the kind of day I'm having today.

This week it is NOT ok...

...to cancel an observation of a lesson RIGHT BEFORE it happens.  The fact that it is necessary for me to meet with you a week in advance to share my lesson, hop around this chapter like a crazy person thanks to the weather and other circumstances that have been interfering, AND keep my students on track for the year has really been easy.  I'm so sorry that things weren't convenient for you today.

...to ignore the fact that your child needs help.  Your child's uncontrollable outbursts are not in any way helping the rest of my students to learn and stay on task.

...to not let me do my job. I'm sorry that you are in denial.  But not allowing me to help your child is not good for anyone in this classroom.

...that winter is not over yet.  I need warm weather.  I NEED summer vacation.  My sanity is slowly slipping away......

...that we have to set the clocks ahead one hour this weekend.  I need my sleep, people.  Losing an hour doesn't make me very happy at all.

I hope you all enjoyed my angry, sarcastic post today.

Sorry that it's so negative, but I needed to get it off my chest.  I hope you will all forgive me.

It's Ok Thursdays 2/28

Oh Thursday, it's ok...

...to be SO. OVER. WINTER.  I just want it to get nice again.  On top of that, yesterday, we just extended our school year by one day thanks to a snow day.  I NEED THIS SCHOOL YEAR TO BE OVER.  I don't particularly like wishing my life away, but it's been a rough year.  And I'm done.

...if every room in your house gets messed up while remodeling ONE.  I don't know if this happens to other people, but that's how we roll here.

...to make something without a recipe.  I got some inspiration, and then I decided to just throw something together in my Bean Pot.  I will share my creation soon.  :)

...to really, really, really want a maid.  I just SO hate cleaning the house.  I think this is because I'm particular, and I would like to clean it very thoroughly every time.  This is not possible, and it is exhausting.  Therefore, I just don't clean often at all.  lol

...that I love the History Channel.  They have such cool shows!  Modern Marvels, American Pickers, Pawn Stars

...to hate orange juice.  I don't even like oranges.  Why would I drink their juice?  Vitamin C supplement, anyone?

Random list, I know.   :)

What's ok with you this week?

It's Ok Thursday 2/21

It's time for another rendition of "It's Ok Thursdays!"  Before I tell you what's ok with me this week, I would like to let you know that all ads in my shop are now 25% percent off!  On Tuesday, I tweeted that if I reached 25 followers that I would give the discount.  I had 24 followers at the time, and thanks to this giveaway from Tarole and sponsors, I more than doubled!  Use promocode 25PLUS.

So welcome new followers!  I hope to get to know you, and that you will want to stay as readers and not just followers! :)

This week it's ok...

...that we had a snow day.  While it sucks that my Easter break has been drastically reduced, I got A LOT done at home.

...to enjoy an in-service.  We had the best in-service that I have ever attended on Monday.  We had been copies of the book Most Unlikely to Succeed by Nelson Lauver.  He is from a nearby county in Pennsylvania, and the book was so good.  He came to our school to speak on Monday.  First, he retold some of the parts of the book, and it was followed by a Q & A session.  He even autographed our books!  I wish we could do things like that for every in-service!!  (NOTE: I'll be writing a review of his book in an upcoming post.)

...to try.  Even if you don't succeed.  I'll tell you guys now because I love you all.  I went to NYC this weekend to audition for The Voice again.  I didn't make it through, which is really hard to share.  I just find it embarrassing because people assume that you must be bad.  lol.  I promise I'm not.  It just wasn't my time yet.

...to be a nerd.  The best part of being in NYC this weekend was that the Discovery Center had a Harry Potter exhibition.  James & Oliver Phelps (Fred & George Weasley) were there.  We didn't get to see them, BUT we did see actual props from the movies.  They were set up in awesome displays on sets representing the movies.  It. Was. So. Cool!  I wish I had pictures to share, but photography was not allowed.  BOO!

...that we are counting down the days left in school.  Once we hit day 100, it's downhill from there!  (P.S.  We have 77 left.)

...to love Pajama Days!  Sorry Kristin.  My class collected about 900 Box Tops for Education.  Not only did we contribute to our school earning over $1000, but we were in 2nd place on the downstairs floor (K-3)!  We won a pajama day, and we will be served hot chocolate!  Not getting dressed up for work?  Ok in my book!!

What's ok with you this week?

P.S.  You should enter this giveaway!
P.S.S. If you haven't linked up for Dinner Time Tuesdays yet, there's still time!

It's time for another edition of "It's Ok Thursdays..."

This week:
It's ok...that I successfully only wore "real" pants 3 days this week.  I LOVE leggings.

It's ok...to make a big dinner that only you end up eating.

It's ok...to go a little crazy stocking up on new clothes.

It's ok...that I could crawl into bed and go to sleep.  RIGHT.  NOW.

It's ok...that a 5 day work week feels like eternity.  (Although, there is a possibility of a delay tomorrow.  But it would actually totally screw up my whole day.)

It's ok...to celebrate the 100th day of school a day early (tomorrow) because having a celebration on a Monday is similar to cruel and unusual punishment for a teacher.

It's ok...to ask for help.  I had 5 Celebrating Home parties scheduled for February, and because of people rescheduling, I only have 2 right now.  Come check out my site: http://www.celebratinghome.com/parties/RebeccaDougherty443618 .

It's ok...to self promote!  Have you checked out my ad shop?  I'm looking for my first blog sponsor!  You can follow me on Twitter!  OR you can come like my Facebook page!

It's Ok Thursday

This winter weather totally sucks.  Last week, we had two 2 hour delays because it was so cold.  The last two days were in the high 50s.  It rained ALL DAY yesterday, finishing off the remaining snow.  Overnight, that lovely rain turned back to snow.

Is it spring yet??  Scott and I are going to Gobbler's Knob (the home all the famous Pennsylvania groundhog "Punxutawney Phil") tomorrow night.  Bright and early (and in the extreme cold) on Saturday morning, he shall tell us if spring is coming sooner rather than later.  (Disclaimer: I actually hate Groundhog Day, and in no way do I think that stupid groundhog can predict the weather.  I am only going because I love my husband.  He doesn't "believe" in all that weather predicting either.  There's drinking involved starting Friday night.  Enough said.)

So anyway...

This week it's ok....

...to start a Facebook page for your blog.  (Check out my brand-new page here!)

...to hate winter.

...to go to bed early.  I am heading there shortly after the publishing of this post.  I don't know when I'll be sleeping again after tonight....hopefully, I'll be able to catch a nap before watching a groundhog predict the weather.

...to fall in love with blogging.  I have always enjoyed it, but now, I really do love it.  I love the connections I'm making with people I've never met in person!  I have also found such support and encouragement with my blogging goals.  It's all so exciting!

...that this is a short list of things that are "ok".

It's Ok Thursday 1/24

I am really glad it's Thursday.  In fact, I'm so glad that it's Thursday, it almost seems like Friday.  I don't know why I'm so happy for Thursday.  Maybe it's just because tomorrow definitely IS Friday.

It's ok...to be glad it's Thursday! :)

It's ok...to be super hungry but not know what you want to eat.

It's ok...to be cranky because you're hungry and don't know what you want to eat.

It's ok...to be a little confused.  I've had a strange couple of weeks.

It's ok...if you actually want to read the book that was assigned for the next teacher in-service day.  (The author of the book is coming to speak at our school in February.  The book isn't a boring, text-book kind of book.  It's actually a memoir.  So far, it's really good!)

It's ok...to hate winter.  It's SO cold here.  Supposedly the fact that it's 23* today should feel "warm" since it was 10* yesterday.  (In case you're wondering, it does NOT feel warm.)

It's ok...to hate winter, but to love 2 hour delays.  Because of the insane cold we've had here, we had a 2 hour delay on Tuesday AND Wednesday.  Thanks, below zero windchills.  (P.S.  I'm a much happier teacher at 10:30 AM than I am at 8:30 AM.)

What's ok with you this week?
